Stanley Park Old-Growth Forest Walk and Fundraiser! July 25th, 7:00-8:30pm
Join the Ancient Forest Alliance's Ken Wu, TJ Watt, and Hannah Carpendale for a guided nature walk to some of the largest old-growth redcedars, Douglas-firs, grand firs, and bigleaf maples left in the Lower Mainland! Learn about the ecology, plants, and animals that inhabit this forest.

Sonora Island & the Great Bear Rainforest: Protecting What Remains
Sonora Island is the ‘tail-end’ of the Great Bear Rainforest (or depending on your orientation, it’s the head of the Great Bear). It’s around 160 square kilometers of primarily mountainous terrain, and mostly under forest cover. Homes are sporadically located along its coastline with access by boat and floatplane only. It’s part of unceded aboriginal traditional territories of three First Nations.

The following is a graph from Statistics Canada showing the steep decline in forestry employment levels in British Columbia that took place most dramatically during the reign of the BC Liberal Party from 2001 until 2013 (2011 is the last year shown in this graph).

Hosted by the Comox Valley Land Trust, Lake Trail Neighbourhood Connections and the Comox Valley Conservation Strategy, The Ancient Forest Alliance will present a slideshow about the ecology, policies and status of BC's old-growth forests as part of the their upcoming tour of key BC communities to promote old-growth protection and sustainable second-growth forestry.
